Humming Bird Repose by Julie Magers Soulen

Title: Humming Bird Repose

Photographer: Julie Magers Soulen

About this Image: The other day I was watering plants on our deck and spotted this little hummer girl sitting peacefully and enjoying the day. I was so taken aback by her unusual behavior. Most of our broad-tailed hummingbirds are blatantly feisty, constantly diving and chattering over front row seats at the three feeders that I refill a couple times a day. (We go through over ten pounds of sugar a week!)

I went inside to get my camera, thinking she would surely be gone when I returned. But she was still there, tilting her head and blinking at me. She sat there for several minutes completely unperturbed by my close proximity. Then a big gust of wind blew her right off her perch and she was gone, leaving me to ponder what I had just witnessed.

Watercolor Beauty by Ann Åhsberg

I walk down the hill, and I see
beautiful blood maples

I can not resist ...

picks a pair of red and
black leaves on the ground

I walk outside a day care center

Where the children's laughter is
heard during the play,

their rest from requirements…

picks some more leaves in red,
yellow and orange

I feel rich ...

have a bouquet of leaves
in my hand

inspires me to
paint a watercolor,

something new to have
on my wall

In Death I Shall Finally Breathe by StormSage

I am drowning, sinking to the very bottom
of the deepest, darkest
crevice beneath the
smooth surface of
the turquoise crystal ocean.
My arms flailing,
I struggle
with every ounce of my being;
towards the surface
where the rays of sunlight
can be felt upon my cold skin.
But, I am too weak,
so I stop.
Closing my eyes
I accept that this is now my fate.
I exhale one last time,
now devoid of air,
no more blue sky,
an absent sun.
The dark ocean
swallows me whole.

The beating of my heart
grows faint
as the pressure builds,
sinking further down
the beating finally stops.
My spirit now rises.

For no matter how far
in life I may sink,
even if my heart no longer beats,
my spirit will ultimately rise again...
breaking the surface of the mirrored ocean.

A gleaming white moon
lighting the way.
So that finally I may rest,
without fear, despair or wanting.
In death I shall finally breathe.
